I don’t know about all of you, but I always look forward to the “Progress Edition” of the Imperial Republican.
I think it’s amazing to see how far our community has come each year. When other small, rural communities are struggling to keep their main street business occupied, Imperial seems to be flourishing with new businesses, new families and various improvements. We are indeed a progressive community.
But in order to progress, we must allow and accept change.

Imphal, January 03 2008: To do away with daily cumbersome activities of carrying books to school in a bag by children, plans are afoot for introduction of the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) Scheme in the State through which every school going child would be able to carry just one solar power generated laptop to the school.

| Gov't gives free laptops to Norfolk children |

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has given Norfolk County Council £310,000 to purchase laptops for more than 400 children.
The money from the government's Home Access ICT scheme will be used to target groups of young people who live in deprived areas; are persistent absentees; are traveller children; are in alternative education; or have English as a second language.

| Charlestown laptops project moves ahead |

Greater Clark school district and Charlestown officials are working on plans to provide laptop computers to each of the nearly 1,200 middle and high school students in the city and their teachers.
On Jan. 26, a public meeting is to be conducted at the school to discuss the proposal with parents, Charlestown High principal Dick Johnson said today.
Amy Schellenberg, director of curricular services for the Greater Clark schools, said the administration expects in February to present a plan to

| Southwell students aid laptop research |

Hamilton's Southwell School has been awarded a $250,000 research contract by computer giant Toshiba.
Headmaster Royce Helm said the school applied for the contract through Toshiba computers and was awarded it about two weeks ago.
It wanted to use a school in New Zealand to put tablet computers into classrooms and research what kind of effect they had on the children's learning over a two-year period.

John Lennon is featured in a new TV commercial (see above) that began airing Christmas Day for One Laptop per Child (OLPC), a nonprofit organization working to provide children in the developing world access to a solar-power laptop computer.
The 30-second spot, which can be seen on the campaign's official website or YouTube, is called "A Message from John Lennon." Lennon's voice, simulated by an imitator, gives viewers about the potential impact the laptops would have for a child.
