Welcome to all participants of the Next Steps Institute 'We've Got Laptops--Now What?!" Please let everyone know a little about yourself and your school or district, when you are planning to begin your laptop program, any previous experience you've had planning and/or implementing laptop programs, and any specific issues or questions you want to address at the institute.

It would be good if we each introduced ourselves here. Nothing long - just to let us know a bit about yourself. I'll start.....

I have worked in the field of educational technology for more than 25 years, beginning by teaching both adults and students about computers and the Logo computer language. For more than 20 years I worked at Logo Computer Systems Inc (LCSI) and had the good fortune to work with Seymour Papert and many of his MIT students and colleagues including Mitchell Resnick, Yasmin Kafai, and Brian Silverman. During my stay at LCSI, I participated in the design of constructivist products based on the Logo language and philosophy, including LogoWriter (used extensively in the first laptop school, MLC) MicroWorlds, JournalZone, and the My Make Believe series, and authored and edited numerous teacher and student guidebooks. I retired as President of LCSI in 2007 and began working for AALF that year as its Executive Director.

Hello, I'm Wendy Harrington, my position is the Director of Academic Technology at Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine. I have been involved in the planning and implementation of our tablet program for the last 5 years, this year will be year four of our implementation in grades 7-11. I am happy that 12 teachers from Berwick Academy will be taking this course and hope they will explore meaningful ways to incorporate the tablets in their classrooms to engage students and promote learning. I hope to be a resource for these and other teachers at Berwick as we learn more about 1-to-1 computing.

My name is John... I teach math at Berwick Academy. I use my tablet primarily as a demonstration tool - power points, projecting work for the class to follow, videos, geometer sketchpad/geogebra... I'd like to learn more about different applications to benefit students' learning.

ADMIN EDIT: Testing discussion board features. Didn't change post content.

Hi I'm Patrick and I teach English to sophomores and seniors. This year I'll be working with sophomores who've currently been with their tablets for at least two years. I'm looking to join them.

Hi. I\'m Kevin Freed, a middle school Humanities teacher at the Catherine Cook School in Chicago. This will be my third year at CCS and my third year teaching students with laptops. I learned a lot at the AALF conference in Pennsylvania last year, but realize there is so much more I need know. I\'m looking forward these sessions.

My name is Lara Kossiakoff and I teach 5th and 6th grade Science at the Catherine Cook School in Chicago. Although I have been teaching for 10 years, this is the first time I will be teaching students with their own laptops. I am looking forward to learning more about how to implement the technology into the classroom.
