Welcome to all participants of the 21 Steps to 21st Century Learning - Implementation Online Institute starting October 27, 2009. Please let everyone know a little about yourself and your school or district, when you are planning to begin your laptop program, any previous experience you've had planning and/or implementing laptop programs, and any specific issues or questions you want to address at the institute.

Hi My name is Scott Taylor. I am the Learning Technology Coordinator (LTC) for St Mary's High School in Country NSW, Australia. I attended a conference that Bruce Dixon presented about the 21 steps to 21st century learning and was very excited by the vision of a 1-to-1 laptop program for our school. This opportunity has come at just the right time for us as we are starting the whole process of planning for the implementation of a 1-to-1 laptop program in our school.
I will be very interested in learning about 1) some of the pitfalls we should be aware of, 2) hearing any advice from those that are further along the road than us and 3) how to improve what we do as far as teaching and learning when we have laptops ie how do we make the most use of ICT in education.
I look forward to seeing what others have to say and experiencing online learning for myself.

Hi, Steve Foskett here. I am Head of Learning Technologies at the Australian International School in Hong Kong. I must ditto Scott, we also are planning a laptop/mobile learning environment in 2010 in the secondary division.
We are looking keenly at iPod Touch hand helds as well as notebooks/netbooks, so the whole world of mobile learning is open for discussion here.
I met Bruce in HK last month at the 21C Conference and I took the chance to learn more as quickly as possible!

Hi John Pembroke here. I am Assistant to the Principal @ All Hallows' School in sunny Brisbane, Australia. We are moving to a 'one to one' program utilising Netbooks. This year we have trialled a full year level of 240. The trial has been very positively recieved by all. The hard work is about to begin with supporting staff as they self reflect on their practice.
We will be walking the path of onnovation together. I look forward to Bruce's insights as well as those of other participants.

Hi, my name is Micah Stetson. I'm the technology consultant for the eScholar Academy charter school in northern California, US. From its creation, this school has used computer-based instruction as our primary teaching tool. We've gone from PCs to thin clients, then to laptops for use on site. Now we are wanting to give each student ownership of their own netbook for use both at school and at home. We are also looking into ways of providing at-home Internet access for students without it.
Looking forward to the rest of the course,
Micah

Hi, I'm Narelle Cleaver, Head of Department (Pedagogy) at Tannum Sands State High School. (Tannum's on the QLD coast, about 6 hours north of Brisbane.) Our school has about 1100 kids and we are generally quite well regarded in the region in regards to how we have gone with ICT integration so far.
I attended the 21 Steps PD with my Principal last year, but as we are getting further into planning for 1-1 it seems we may go for gradual integration rather than full-on schoolwide implementation straight up. We have a committee (comprising of teachers, admin, students and techies)working on the program- at the moment I am getting a little frustrated trying to get a decision made re the model we are going to adopt- taking into account NSSCF funding, BER etc.
