Re: Essential Policies - Policies on Batteries, Storage, and Carriage of Laptops

Batteries and Charging
It is required that you:
1.FULLY charge your laptop overnight before arriving at school in the morning;
AND
2. Carry a spare, charged battery - with two batteries, you should be able to get through a full day of classes without requiring access to power.
Carriage, Transport and Storage of Laptops
1.The School recommends that all students purchase protective cases/foam sleeves for extra protection of the laptop.
2. When moving about with your open laptop in class, carry it with two hands; when moving about in the School hallways, it must be in its protective case/foam sleeve.
3. When leaving the school building, it is strongly recommended that your laptop be in a closed/zipped backpack or shoulder bag for protection against damage and weather.
4.Never leave your laptop unattended for any amount of time.
5.When not in use in class, your laptop must be locked in your locker.
6. At home, be sure to keep your laptop in a safe place away from food, drinks, pets and siblings.
Additional points
* for younger kids, access to power could be provided for charging at school.
** some schools have a ‘charging center’ where kids can swap their drained battery for a charged one.

Re: Essential Policies - Games and MP3 Players

Policy on Games and MP3 Players
The school encourages the use of a variety of technologies that support learning. We expect our students to behave responsibly and ethically in making intelligent decisions about what is educational and what is entertaining, as age-appropriate. In keeping with school policy, all software must be licensed and any new software to be installed on school laptops must be approved by the Director of Technology.
(We did not write a specific policy on games and MP3 players as we felt there were appropriate situation for using both in schools.)

Re: Essential Policies - Web 2.0 Tools

Use of Web 2.0 tools should:
• Be considered as an extension of the classroom; therefore extend the learning and follow classroom behavior expectations.
• Consider any safety issues around the use of these tools; such as posting of images, putting in profile information.
