It may not seem like it right now, but there is a day approaching that most parents hates to face. This dreaded day is when your children leave your home to make their own way in the world. The children will all be grown up and gone. It doesn?t seem that long ago that they were twirling in ballet skirts or heading to Little League tryouts. Now you are left feeling fairly lost and alone. Don't feel too badly. Though it is difficult to deal with, there are ways of going through the change smoothly and enjoying your new life.

The first thing that you will need to realize is that the departure of your children does not in any way stop you from being their parent. The only difference is that the relationship which you had with your children has now eased into a less dependent but just as comfortable phase. It is only natural that children will want to be more dependent as they get older. You should not feel offended or slighted in any way by their desire to move on, but you should try and help your kids in whatever manner you can.

Despite the distance between you and your children, there is no denying your role in their lives. Likewise, they will always be your children. By supplying them with encouragement in their new lives, you can develop a friendship with one another.

Before your children entered your life, your family consisted of just you and your spouse. When the children showed up, that unity was somewhat divided. Now that your kids have left the house, you can reform that oneness that was so important to the early part of your marriage. It is time once again for you to be a twosome, planning vacations, outings, and activities for just the two of you. For instance, you can both go on a road trip or spend longer hours in bed in the morning without worrying about getting breakfast ready. Take this time to refocus on the love of your life who has been there for you through it all. Even if you lost your spouse, you can still take this chance to meet new people and reconnect with friends you haven't seen in years.

When you're a parent with small children at home, you have to put your child's needs first. Now you can serve yourself first, take care of your own needs, and cut nobody's meat but your own. Your needs don't have to be shoved into the background any longer. You will be able to do things that you've wanted to do, but couldn't. Maybe you can visit a country you've never been to. You can pick up a new hobby that you have always been looking to take up. No matter what it is, you can devote some time to making it happen.

Though you have accepted the fact that your children will eventually leave home, it is only human to be disheartened and feel the empty void created by their absence. Take the time to get used to the idea of their absence and start to prioritize your life with new activities. However, it is advisable not to rush into things. Take time to figure out what you wish to do. Define your revamped goals and chart out a new course for your life. As a parent, your priority was your children. You?ve done the best you can and, barring any unforeseen event, your children are bound to make you proud. It is time for you to concentrate your nurturing qualities on yourself. Quite frankly, you deserve it.
Tue, 17 Apr 2012 02:38:43 GMTArndtBingaman122http://www.aalf.org/wiki/index.php?title=Talk:ArndtBingaman122
