Posted by: Susan Einhorn

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today kicked off the laptop distribution programme at Jaydev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Chief minister Patnaik handed over laptops to 20 Plus II students.
Earlier the state government has decided to distribute free laptops to students on August 15. Addressing the launching program CM Patnaik said that, “I am delighted that the first phase of distribution of laptops begins today. And in next two to three months, all the eligible students will receive their new computers. I congratulate the students who are receiving their laptops today.”
CM Patnaik further said that, “The digital revolution has been dramatic and rapid with far reaching consequences. Despite India being a global leader in software technology, most of our people do not have access to information and communication technology. Therefore, we have to make a conscious effort to be on the right side of this digital divide. The State Government has taken a number of initiatives to close the gap in digital divide. We have an active e-governance policy to enhance service delivery efficiency. We have a State Wide Area Network to connect districts with the state headquarters known as e-District Programme. We have also launched Jana Seva Kendras where services are being provided through electronic mode. The provision of laptops to students is another initiative for digital empowerment of our young generation under BIJU YUVA SAW-SAKTI KARAN Yojana.”
