Parents question new laptop program at Vermilion schools
Posted by: Justina Spencer

VERMILION — Parental concerns about the take-home laptops for the upcoming school year, as well as the fees and usage of the technology, were addressed last night during an open community meeting at Sailorway Middle School.

In June, the Vermilion school board approved the $2.8 million “One-to-One” initiative which would equip students in grades six to 12 with MacBooks and students in kindergarten through fifth grade with an iPod touch. There was originally a $140 fee proposed for use of the laptops but that has been dropped to $50 per student.
