Fundación Zamora Terán, Banco LAFISE-BANCENTRO and One Laptop per Child Connect the Children of Ometepe to the World
Posted by: Susan Einhorn

One Laptop per Child (OLPC), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide every child in the world access to new channels of learning, sharing and self-expression, announced today that the OLPC project in Nicaragua now includes the children of the island of Ometepe. OLPC, Fundación Zamora Terán and Banco LAFISE-BANCENTRO are celebrating the delivery of 5,000 XO laptops to every child on this island formed by two volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua.

Fundación Zamora Terán oversees the implementation of the OLPC project in Nicaragua. Established in 2009, the non-profit foundation received seed funding from Banco LAFISE-BANCENTRO, a unit of the Central American LAFISE (Latin American Financial Services) banking group. The foundation is supported by numerous donors, including The Royal Danish Embassy, which made a significant contribution for the Atlantic Coast region of Nicaragua. With the project in Ometepe, 25,000 XO laptops will have been distributed to children in schools across the country.
